A second half hat-trick from Kilcock Celtic’s Shane Fitzgerald against Clane United on Sunday October 22nd pushed the prolific striker’s tally for the calendar year of 2017 to 51 goals in all competitions.
Fitzgerald, who is a former League of Ireland player with the likes of UCD and Galway United, has been in scintillating form for first Al Myles and now Brendan Rooney and has lead the line well all season, been a great role model to his very youthful team mates in the process.
‘He scores when he wants’ has become a common chant from the sideline up at The Bawnouges and to put his achievements into context, Fitzgerald leads Lionel Messi by six goals, with Messi currently on 45, Spurs striker Harry Kane has 38, while Ronaldo is only in the ha’penny place with 32!!!
He hasn’t been on his own though in the goal scoring exploits for Celtic as 18 year old Remi Kareem has hit 19 goals in his first season on the senior team, while late addition to the squad Eoin Hannigan has bagged nine goals in as many games. The trio have hit 80 goals between them.
Please feel free to send in some other similar feats from around country as we look to see has anyone got close to Fitzgerald.
